Chef Casey McDonald will host a series of dinners as part of Visa Wellington on a Plate while Hawke’s Bay restaurant undergoes renovation.
Food lovers in Wellington will have the opportunity to enjoy a taste of Hawke’s Bay in the capital this August. Over the weekend of 18th and 19th August, Craggy Range Head Chef Casey McDonald will be taking over Egmont St Eatery, bringing his signature local and seasonal produce to this laneway favourite, as part of Visa Wellington on a Plate.
Diners will be treated to a four course menu prepared in collaboration between Craggy Range and Egmont St Eatery, alongside current and older vintage Craggy Range wines, carefully selected to pair with the dishes.
The dinner will feature ingredients sourced from both Hawke’s Bay and the Wellington region, including vegetables sourced from Craggy Range’s own kitchen garden in the shadow of the spectacular Te Mata Peak.
Casey McDonald joined the Craggy Range team a year ago, as part of a journey to create a world class dining destination at the winery’s home near Havelock North. With a background in Michelin-star restaurants, Casey brought with him a passion for locally sourced produce, and quickly set about visiting local suppliers to form relationships and learn about the land. Winter 2018 saw the restaurant enter its next phase of development, closing for a full renovation spearheaded by award-winning Auckland-based designer Paul Izzard. The restaurant is set to reopen in October 2018 with a new relaxed contemporary design, with an open kitchen and expanded bar area.
Commenting on the Wellington on a Plate activity, Casey said “as a Wellingtonian myself, I’m a proud advocate of the city’s dining scene, and am excited to be involved with Wellington on a Plate. Egmont St Eatery is a natural partner for Craggy Range, sharing our philosophy of relaxed and informal dining underpinned by high quality seasonal produce. 2018 marks an exciting new chapter for Craggy Range’s restaurant, and it’s great to be able to share a preview of what’s in store with the people of Wellington, before we reopen in October.”
The Craggy Range at Egmont St Eatery takeover runs over four sessions - Saturday 18th August at 6:30pm and 8:30pm, and Sunday 19th August at 6pm and 8pm.
