About

94 Points

This is a field blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Floral, fresh and vivid with lovely freshness and a nice green hint. Lovely supple, direct, pure cherry and raspberry fruit drives this wine, and there’s a real elegance to it. So supple and drinkable, yet with some seriousness.

Deep crimson red. Complex aromatics of red fruits, black peppercorn, baked clay and garrigue herbs. The palate evokes an afternoon’s walk through a dry field of wild herbs but also has an inner fruit purity that is balanced by acidity and integrated silky tannins.

In 1876, great floods swept through Hawke's Bay. When they subsided, the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left behind in a warm, sun-filled valley, greened lightly with spring rain. On the right bank of this old river is a collection of different soil mixes, stone and mineral rich, ideal for growing Syrah, Bordeaux-style reds and Chardonnay.
