A focus on quality

A FOCUS ON QUALITY
FROM THE BEGINNING

Craggy Range is a family owned winery established in 1997 and situated in the shadow of the spectacular Te Mata Peak in the premium wine growing area of Hawke’s Bay New Zealand.

about overview map

Craggy Range produces a collection of iconic wines from multiple regions in New Zealand. Owner Terry Peabody and his family pursued the single vineyard approach to winemaking, planting on green fields and bare land ensuring a focus on quality from the very beginning.

New Zealand, with its diversity of soils types offered the perfect location to plant the vines. From the stony, warm soils of the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay to the volcanic, clay soils of Te Muna Road in Martinborough these exceptional vineyards produce wines with amazing aromatics, purity and complexity.

The wines, produced for the Prestige and Family Collections are pure expressions of the unique terroir in which they were grown.

AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH

When Terry Peabody and Steve Smith set about creating Craggy Range, they took an innovative approach to select unique parcels of land and planted vineyards that would produce wines that spoke of their place. They wanted to select sites with the right soils specific to that variety ensuring the terroir could show in the finished wines.

This lead to the selection of sites in the best wine growing regions in New Zealand. The Gimblett Gravels Vineyard is located in Hawke's Bay on the east coast of New Zealand while the Te Muna Road Vineyard is located just outside of the township of Martinborough on the lower north island.
