The Prestige Collection is a collection of wines that express a combination of exceptional ripeness, exceptional terroir, and the most complete expression of the winemaker's art. They are a small volume, exclusive range wines made from our estate vineyards – the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay and Te Muna Road in Martinborough.
Each wine has a name that reflects its heritage and personality. The Chardonnay called “Les Beaux Cailloux” comes from a particularly stunning parcel of vineyard on stony soils in the Gimblett Gravels. “Sophia” is a variation on the Bordeaux red varieties blend and is rich, red and precisely constructed. “Le Sol” is all at once luscious, elegant and exuberant - and in a very short time has shown the breeding of Syrah in the Gimblett Gravels. And from Te Muna Road, “Aroha” is a complex, serious Pinot Noir that rewards patient cellaring.
The wines are a hand selection of the best parcels in the vineyard. The selection begins at pruning and follows an intensive and tightly defined programme through until harvest. In the winery these parcels receive a more expressive version of our craft, with more use of indigenous fermentation, longer maceration times, and different oak maturation regimes. The selection is then completed with an aggressive barrel selection.
