GIMBLETT GRAVELS WINEGROWERS ASSOCIATION

Founded in 2001, the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowers Association brings together some of New Zealand’s finest wine producers with a fervent respect for the concept of revealing the region's 'terroir' – harnessing this philosophy with the vineyard soils and microclimate to produce character fruit – as the catalyst for superb wines.

The Gimblett Gravels appellation, covering 800ha, is strictly determined by the gravelly soils laid down by the old Ngaruroro River, which were exposed after a huge flood in the 1860’s.  Only vineyards in the geographical area with 95% of their land in the gravelly soils are eligible to become members of the Gimblett Gravels. Wines bearing the Gimblett Gravels brand must be 95% from the district in order to display the Associations Gimblett Gravels logo.
