CHARDONNAY

Hawkes Bay’s diverse, yet temperate climate provides ideal conditions for our Chardonnay production.

We produce three wines from two quite different sites at opposite sides of the region.

The Kidnappers Vineyard, being cooler, lends itself to a more elegant style where winemaking artefact is restricted to a subtle and fruit supporting level. The Gimblett Gravels vineyard, being warmer, produces structurally intense fruit, hence the classic techniques of Burgundy being employed to complement and enhance the natural fruit richness and complexity that can found in the Family Collection wine from this vineyard and our Prestige Collection “Les Beaux Cailloux”.

"We had been recommended to taste some of the fabulous craggy range wines by friends and we decided to come for the food too!!! FANTASTIC!! Wonderful helpful staff, we tried ten wines as tasting glasses with our food which was scrumptious! I had the poached pear with blue cheese, walnuts and other treats and Tom had the veal and tuna starter. Yum! Followed by the beef and the venison both perfectly cooked and delicious! The bearnaise sauce was to die for!! What a treat. We will definitely be back. Very highly recommended!"

"Craggy Range embodies the Hawkes Bay experience - a place where fine wine culture begets great food culture, and it's all in plain view, all from the region itself."

Robert Oliver, Huffington Post 25/04/2012

"We had a superb Magnum of 2004 Block 14 Syrah this weekend...It's cellared really well and was ultra smooth with lovely full fruit flavours. Favourable comments by all guests at our 30th wedding anniversary dinner. Keep making nice wine for us all."

"If you only have one meal in the area, make it Terroir. The food, service, and wine are outstanding. We had the bone-in roast pork loin that was carved and served table side by a delightful server, including the "cracklings". They also serve short pours of their wines so you can try several. "The whole experience was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip to New Zealand. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a roaring fire to welcome us in from the cold. I would recommend a visit to anyone intertested in good food and good wine in a lovely setting."

"We truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in the cottage during our honeymoon stay. It was romantic and the perfect setting to relax after a long day of wine tasting. If you're looking for a special place and willing to pay a small premium, you should stay here."

"Wonderful food and service for lunch. Loved their wine list - you can sample a range of wines with your meal. Amazing views of Te Mata Peak from your table! One of the highlights was walking through the vineyard and around the pond after lunch."
