Christchurch Fundraising Dinner & Auction - 23/03/2011

Hawke’s Bay’s top wineries came together over the weekend for a truly unique, one off dinner raising more than $55,000 for the people of Christchurch.

The dinner was held at Terrôir Restaurant at Craggy Range, but jointly hosted by Craggy Range, Black Barn Winery, Elephant Hill Winery and Vidal Estate with all their staff donating their time for free.  Each winery’s chef prepared food generously donated by local suppliers and matched to wines given by Easthope Winegrowers, Tukipo River Estates, Trinity Hill and Esk Valley.

“It was absolutely fabulous that suppliers and wineries were able to combine for such a worthy event. The presence of new faces in the kitchen and on the dining floor, who donated their time, made for a fun night and I am sure that everyone present enjoyed the meal”, said Terrôir Restaurant Manager, Tracey McInnes.

Accompanying the meal was an auction with over 22 wineries and many other local businesses contributing. Wine highlights included the 22 bottles of Hawkes Bay red wine that sold for $4,500 and the 3 litre signed bottle of Frizzell wine selling for $850. A rare magnum of 1998 Joseph Soler sold for $875.
Other items auctioned on the night included a business acceleration course with local businessman Rod Drury ($4,500), a night at the luxurious Cape Kidnappers ($2,200) and a print by local photographer Richard Brimer that sold for $3,500. The final lot of the night was a trip in a private jet for 8 people which received a staggering bid of $10,000.

MC for the evening Steve Smith MW, Wine and Viticultural Director of Craggy Range, was thrilled with the diners’ generosity “to have so many people of Hawke’s Bay buying tickets for the night and then bidding fiercely for the great lots on offer was fantastic. It was a great event and I am extremely pleased that we will be able to contribute something to the people of Christchurch who are so in need of help right now.”

All the money raised on the night from ticket sales and auction lots will be donated to Christchurch.
